Course Description
Building upon the concepts from CS 104, students will explore in-depth how computer science education is presented in the secondary education setting. Students will get the opportunity to explore current computer science curriculum and develop resources for future teaching, with a specific emphasis on the College Board’s AP CS Principles (AP CSP) curriculum.
Course Objectives
- Describe CS Standards at the nation, state, and local level
- Navigate AP CS Principles resources provided through multiple organizations and entities
- Identify opportunities for Continuing Education in AP CSP
- Create and plan AP CSP projects for the secondary education classroom
- Plan recruitment efforts for students interested in AP CSP, specifically focusing on increasing enrollment for minority and female students
- Demonstrate sound problem solving using Computational Thinking
- Incorporate the Big Ideas for Computing into course lesson plans
- Develop an AP CSP focused course lesson plan
